DBT Skills Group for Parents
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based therapy that is effective for people struggling with intense emotions, contentious relationships, and problematic behavior. Sounds perfect for families with teens, right?
DBT is like physical therapy for your brain. It teaches skills that help you regulate your emotions, tolerate distress, practice mindfulness, and interact with your child in a way that helps you get your needs met without burning bridges, sacrificing respect, or being taken advantage of.
I’ve used DBT skills on my own kids, and I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t. You could say I have in-the-field training. That’s why I help other parents interact with their teenagers.
The group consists of five modules:
Mindfulness to stay present and respond thoughtfully rather than reactively.
Distress Tolerance to manage parenting stress without unhealthy coping strategies.
Emotion Regulation to understand and control emotions rather than feeling overwhelmed.
Interpersonal Effectiveness to communicate clearly and set healthy boundaries.
Walking the Middle Path to balance perspectives, validate emotions, and solve conflicts effectively.
My goal is to help you empathize and connect with your teen so everyone suffers less.
